Typing tricks

Today i will show you some Typing tricks.

Delete an entire word Instead of deleting a single letter, pressing CTRL + BKSP will delete the entire word behind the cursor. This makes deleting text quicker if you screw up a whole word.

Move Cursor to beginning of the next or previous word Moving the cursor around manually while typing is a great way to make your work take longer than it needs to. To speed of the process, move the cursor around with keyboard shortcuts. To move it to the beginning of the previous word, use CTRL + Left Arrow. To move it to the beginning of the next word, use CTRL + Right Arrow. In OS X you can accomplish the same using the Option key.
Making sub and superscript text If you need to make sub or superscript text (think exponents for superscript), press CTRL + = for subscript and CTRL + SHIFT + = for superscript.
Paste plain text of what was copied When you copy text from any source, programs will usually copy any formatting that comes with it. To paste this as plain text, press CTRL + Shift + V instead of the standard CTRL + V, and the system will paste unformatted text.
Note that many programs follow this parameter (Chrome, Firefox, etc.) but not all, particularly Microsoft programs like Word or Outlook. For those there's a few alternatives that go beyond copying and pasting in Notepad: 1)CTRL + ALT + V will show a 'paste special' dialog box. 2) CTRL + Spacebar will remove formatting in already pasted text. 3) Download Puretext and choose a hotkey to always paste plain text with it.

hope you like it.
have a great weekend :)

Converting FAT partiton to NTFS

Converting FAT partiton to NTFS Partition without loosing data

  • NTFS(NT File System) is the standard file sytem for Microsoft’s Windows XP and Windows Vista operating systems.NTFS file system provides more stability, security and less fragmentation than previous FAT(File Allocation Table) file system used in operating systems like MS-DOS,Windows 98,Windows ME etc.
  • NTFS is the recommended file system for Windows XP and Windows Vista operating systems because it’s is more powerful than FAT or FAT32 file systems used in former Windows OS’s, and includes features required for hosting Active Directory as well as other important security features.Windows Vista needed NTFS file system in order to install and we can’t install Windows Vista on a FAT partition.
  • Converting a partition from FAT or FAT32 to NTFS can be done by an inbuilt utility(convert.exe) in the Windows XP operating system. So if you want increased security and faster data encryption,go ahead and convert to NTFS.
To convert a FAT partition to NTFS, perform the following steps.
1.Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.
2.In the command prompt window, type: convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs
3.After doing this the inbuilt utility, convert.exe will attempt to convert the drive for you.
For example, running the command convert E: /fs:ntfs would format drive E: to the NTFS format. You can convert FAT or FAT32 volumes to NTFS with this command.
Warning:
*This is a one-way conversion.Once you convert a drive or partition to NTFS, you cannot simply convert it back to FAT or FAT32. You will need to reformat the drive or partition which will erase all data, including programs and personal files, on the partition.
*Make sure there is minimum 3% free space on hard disk drive partitions for proper conversion.
Note:
*Although the chance of corruption or data loss during the conversion from FAT to NTFS is minimal, it is best to perform a full backup of the data on the drive that it is to be converted prior to executing the convert command.

Cyber Security Tips

Secure your computer from being HACKED!

1.  Lock It Down-Many laptops and other small electronic devices include a slot designed to accept a special cable lock. Wrap the cable around something massive, insert the lock into the device, and turn the key or spin the combination. A determined thief could probably wrest the device loose, but only at the expense of seriously damaging the case. There are also locks that attach to a common port such as the video output or parallel port.

2.  Password-Protect It- Yes, it's awfully convenient to just turn on your computer and have it boot straight to the desktop—convenient, but not safe. You absolutely must password-protect your user account, and disable the Guest account if it's not already disabled. Also, dig into the Power settings in Control Panel and set your computer to require a password when it wakes up from the sleep state. If you have to step away from your computer, press Windows+L to lock it.

3.  Protect Your Email. Many schools issue all students a school-specific email address, usually a standard POP3 account. It's a snap to set your email client so it logs in automatically, without requesting the password each time. However, if you ever leave your computer turned on but unattended, anyone could log in and read your email, or send scandalous messages. You'll be safer if you set your email client to require the password every time.

4.  Manage Your Passwords. Like anyone else, students connect with many, many secure sites, each of which demands a password. The only reasonable way to use a unique, strong password for each site is to engage the help of a password manager utility. Install it, check and change any weak passwords, and set it to automatically log out after a short period of inactivity.

5.  Keep Malware Out. The archetypical starving student doesn't have any cash to spare. Downloading pirated software and tunes is one way to save money, but doing so can expose you to malware. In fact, you can run into malicious code even on perfectly legitimate sites, through "poisoned" advertising links. The best free antivirus tools are better than many of their commercial competitors, so there's no excuse for going without antivirus protection.
